Michelle Lavin

Michelle Lavin is a music educator and teaching artist located Barrington, RI where she offers lessons in piano, voice, music theory, improvisation, songwriting, and Musical Theater to both children and adults. Michelle is a classically trained pianist who has studied piano and musical literacy since the age of seven and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from Rhode Island College.
Michelle’s concentration during college was piano and music education with a secondary focus in vocal studies. While at Rhode Island College, Michelle developed her piano technique and performance skills under the tutelage of Drs. Judith Lynn Stillman and Stephen Martorella; studied voice with Georgette Hutchins; and had the privilege of studying under the choral direction of Drs. Edward Markward and Theresa Coffman.
Michelle credits her childhood teacher, mentor and muse Armando Conte in bringing her into musical maturity that inspired her to pursue her collegiate studies and spurred her lifelong love of learning in the field of music performance and education.

Teaching Experience

Michelle has been a music educator and vocal coach for over 24 years building teaching studios in both Barrington, Rhode Island and Loveland, Colorado. In addition to classical music, Michelle enjoys teaching Pop, Blues, Jazz, Broadway, Rock, and Folk music genres.
Michelle actively develops and directs individualized learning programs to enhance the musical education of each student and also offer music camps, duet classes and small vocal ensembles. Michelle is always researching teaching and recital methods that will continue to inspire her students.

Associations and Affiliations

Michelle is an active member of the Music Teachers National Association and the Rhode Island Music Teachers Association. While residing in Loveland, Colorado she was a member of the Colorado Music Teachers Association and the Loveland Area Music Teachers Association where she attended many seminars and continuing education workshops. Such workshops included teaching techniques, improvisation, student motivation and studio management.

Michelle resides in Barrington, RI with her husband, Joe, two daughters, Kylie and Rhianna and their amazing Great Danes, Colonel and Dozer.
